Bird Barrier Coil
MR-Manufacturer
Bird Barrier America, Inc. manufactures the
patented Coil from high-grade Stainless Steel in the United States.
PR-Product Presentation
The Bird Barrier Coil is universal in its
applications. It is an extendible coil specifically designed to stretch out over long,
narrow areas; ledges, I-beams, roof edges, tops of walls, and parapets, to name just a
few. The unique shape and instability of the Coil prevents pigeons and larger birds from
landing on or in between the coils.
Made from Stainless Steel, the Bird Barrier
Coil will not rust or corrode. It can be fastened with screws and coil clips to wood, or
with Bird Barrier Bond and where holes can not or should not be drilled. This same clip
can be nailed if need be.
The Bird Barrier Coil does not hurt the
birds, will not gather leaves or other debris, is easy to install, and requires no regular
maintenance.
The Coil is recommended for light and
medium pressure situations only (see introduction for explanation of bird pressure).

UA-Uses, Applications
Bird Barrier Coil can be used to deter a
wide variety of birds (pigeons and larger) from landing on light pressure (see company
introduction), exposed ledges. The flimsy Coil de-stabilizes the landing platform, causing
the birds to take their business elsewhere. The Coils can be used in combination to cover
any width ledge, and up to one inch can be left unprotected between Coils or a back wall.
The Coil is not recommended for swallows, sparrows or starlings. The Coil is very fast to
install and very hard to see from 20 feet or more.
AI-Assembly, Installation
Bird Barrier Coil (4" or 5") is
fastened to the structure with 1" clips which are glued, screwed or nailed to the
building every 12". Bird Barrier Bond (cure time 2 hours), or Bird Barrier Super Bond
(cure time 1 hour) will fasten the Coil Clips to any clean, dry, stable surface (Bonds
sold separately, clips included). The 25' Coil does not require any assembly, and is
packaged in a plastic bag the size of a softball.
MF-Materials, Finishes
Bird Barrier Coils are constructed of 302
Stainless Steel for non corrosive, non staining application. The Coil Clips are also made
of 302 Stainless Steel.

Execution
3.1 Examination
3.1.1 Examine installation area. Notify
architect of detrimental work conditions.
3.1.2 Do not proceed until conditions are
corrected.
3.2 Surface Preparation
3.2.1 Ledges and mounting surfaces shall be
clean, dry and free of peeling paint, rust, bird droppings or other debris. Bird droppings
must be removed in a safe manner; large quantities should be removed and disposed of by
reputable waste removal companies.
3.2.2 Remove or repair articles that may
damage the Coil after installation, such as tree limbs, brush, and loose parts of the
building.
3.3 Installation
3.3.1 Install Bird Barrier Coil as
recommended in the installation instructions, which are supplied by the manufacturer. The
Coil shall overhang the ledge by 1/4", and the Coil shall not be extended past its
intended twenty five (25) foot length.
3.3.2 Bird Barrier Coil must cover the
complete ledge, not just the outer perimeter. The Coil shall extend to each corner. The
Coil is an anti-landing device, not a barrier. It is acceptable to leave one half to one
inch clearance between Coils or between the Coil and the back wall of the ledge.
3.3.3 Bird Barrier Coil shall be installed
straight, or shall follow the contours of the architecture perfectly. Uneven spacing of
the clips will result in an unattractive installation. Refer to Bird Barrier Coil
installation literature for details.
3.4 Inspection
3.4.1 Visually inspect the Coil for loose
clips or other
problems related to poor installation or
surface preparation.
3.4.2 Repair as necessary immediately.
OM-Operation, Maintenance
If the Coil is installed per our
specifications, the product should be virtually maintenance free. Occasionally birds might
drop debris in the Coil in an attempt to build a nest, but the Coil is designed to release
such debris. Nest building is a characteristic of heavy-pressure sites (see introduction),
and if the birds attempt to nest upon the Coil it was mis-specified and should be
correctly specified with BirdPoint (see in its own section within the Bird Barrier family
of products).
